Wisconsin Badgers Basketball

The last fifteen years has been by far the best in the history of Wisconsin basketball.  They have made the NCAA Tournament every year since 1999 but in that time they haven’t made the Final Four.  The 2012-13 squad had a peak rank of #17 in the country behind a highly-balanced scoring attack of Ben Brust, Jared Berggren, Ryan Evans, and Sam Dekker.  Their offense wasn’t near the best in college basketball but their rebounding was much better, ranking 71st in the country out of over 200 schools.  But with two of those four guys having graduated already, the Badgers will have to hope four-star power forward recruit Nigel Hayes can help offensively.  With a deep roster and strong coaching as usual, there’s little reason to believe Wisconsin won’t be competitive and on their way to yet another NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Wisconsin Badgers operate under head coach Bo Ryan at the Kohl Center in Madison.  Ryan, who took over in 2001, is the most successful Wisconsin coach in nearly a century, has had them nationally ranked at some point during the season every year since 2002.  In the 2006-07 season they were even ranked #1 at one point behind a roster of Alando Tucker, Kammron Taylor, Brian Butch, Michael Flowers, and more.  Currently three former Wisconsin players in Devin Harris, Jon Leuer, and Greg Stiemsma are in the NBA, and other notable alums include Michael Finley and Wes Matthews.  The Kohl Center is nicknamed ‘The Madhouse in Madison’, a play on Chicago’s United Center which is known as ‘The Madhouse on Madison’.  They have made 19 NCAA Tournament appearances all-time, winning the national title in 1940.
