Many believed the Volunteers would struggle to compete in the SEC in head coach Butch Jones’s first year with the school. They were right, Tennesee did struggle in the 2013 season coming away with only two conference wins. The extremely young team, however, is heading in the right direction. Their best win of the year game against #11 South Carolina 23-21. Jones is bringing is a top recruiting class and will have Joshua Dobbs and Riley Ferguson battling it out for the starting quarterback job. Merlin Lane will also provide the Volunteers with a solid option at running back. Overall, the Tennessee Volunteers are on the rise in the SEC. Look for a much improved 2014 season. The Tennessee Volunteers are members of the Eastern Division in the Southeastern Conference. They operate under head coach Butch Jones at Neyland Stadium, which holds just over 102,000 fans. Neyland is a historic stadium, hosting Volunteers games for over 90 years; they have recorded the second most home wins in college football history. They have won six national titles, 16 conference titles, and 49 bowl appearances all-time, and their most heated rivalries are with Alabama and Florida. The Volunteers have had many famous NFL players throughout the years; however, currently the most notable include: Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, Houston Texans running back Arian Foster, and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
