The NCAA Tournament is no foreign place for the Huskies, but they failed to prevail out of the first round, being beaten by the #8 seeded Iowa State Cyclones in the first round. The Huskies will lose two major stars as they head on to have great careers in the NBA in Jeremy Lamb and Andre Drummond. Lamb led the team in scoring while Drummond did the same in rebounding. The two will be greatly missed, but Calhoun is relying on the play of Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright this season. The two will form one of the best backcourts in the country and will be exciting to watch. However, the Huskies will need a bunch of help in the frontcourt, which is why they went out and got C Phillip Nolan from the Rivals Top 150 Board. He was not the only player they were able to snag, as they cushion their dominant backcourt with the Brooklyn guard Omar Calhoun. Sharing the same last name as the head coach is not the only thing Omar and Jim have in common, as they are both true winners.
The Huskies won the NCAA Championship two times in the last decade, winning in 2004 and 2011. In 2004 the team was led by current NBA players Ben Gordon and EmekaOkafor. In 2011 the team was led by college superstar and rising NBA star Kemba Walker. The Huskies also have a lot of players that went on to play NBA basketball including: Ray Allen, Rudy Gay, Ben Gordon, Richard Hamilton, EmekaOkafor, Caron ButlerHasheemThabeet, Charlie Villanueva, Kemba Walker, Jeremy Lamb, and Andre Drummond. All of those players currently hold a spot on an NBA roster, an impressive feat for the program.
Gold Coast Tickets does not want you to miss out on the action as Jim Calhoun takes his amazing backcourt and hopes to make a run in the NCAA Tournament this year!
