Tune-Yards (often stylized as tUnE-yArDs) is the moniker for musician Merrill Garbus. With an experimental sound blending elements of folk rock, R&B and indie pop, Tune-Yards has become increasingly popular among music enthusiasts over the last couple years. New York Times even went as far as to say, “Ms. Garbus has a ferocious voice, somewhere between Aretha Franklin and Yoko Ono. At times it’s a roar, and at times it’s coy, but her ability to modulate it show off a rhythmic and artistic intelligence that echoes Bjork, and even to a degree M.I.A.”. The critical acclaim doesn’t stop there, Tune-Yards’ 2011 album Whokill was tabbed as one of the best of the year by Time Magazine, Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine. Often times a sound so well crafted in a studio doesn’t translate well into live performance, however, when it comes to Tune-Yards that is absolutely not the case. Using a looping mechanism, Garbus layers the sounds of drums, a ukulele and her remarkable vocals to create a memorable live show. Looking to the future, Tune-Yards is scheduled to headline an official Lollapalooza aftershow at the House of Blues on August 3rd, just a day before heading to Grant Park to perform on the Sony stage at Lollapalooza. Gold Coast Tickets currently has great deals on tickets to get you into both of these shows, make sure to order yours today.
