St Louis Cardinals

2013: 97-65, 1st in NL Central; lost in World Series to Boston

A storied, glory-filled past, consistently contending current team, and a typically excellent farm system building for the future make the Cardinals perhaps baseball’s model franchise.  This year is no different than most for the Cards who last year came out on top of the toughest division in baseball.  This year the competition isn't quite as tough but the Cardinals themselves haven't hit their stride yet as of this writing.  But not to worry as the deep lineup and stacked pitching staff is sure to make things happen soon.  Yadier Molina is offensively and defensively probably the best catcher in the league and the heart and soul of the team.  Then there's veteran slugger Matt Holliday, the elder statesman of everyday players at 34.  Then there's young power in Allen Craig and Matt Adams, straight up great hitters in Jon Jay and Matt Carpenter, and new additions Jhonny Peralta and athletic Peter Bourjos.  The Cardinals are an opportunistic offense; they actually don't homer much relative to other high-scoring teams.  The formula has worked and drives the opposition mad--they're sure to turn it up this summer.

Last year's playoffs saw the emergence of another great young pitcher in Michael Wacha.  He joined Joe Kelly, Shelby Miller, and Tyler Lyons as promising youth on the staff.  Young pitching has been a strength for the Cardinals in recent years and they go behind ace Adam Wainwright.  That Cardinals farm system is so deep, even the unheralded prospects are always Major League ready.  By staying young, they’re staying affordable.  Carlos Martinez, Kevin Siegrist, Trevor Rosenthal, and Pat Neshek make up the sturdy bullpen.  The bullpen hasn't hit its stride yet either but the talent is undoubtedly there to win with.  As always it’s a playoff atmosphere at Busch Stadium where 40,000 of some of the most loyal fans in the world file in each night.  We may be a Chicago-based company, but Gold Coast Tickets can still get you great deals on St. Louis Cardinals tickets!
