Originally created in the 1920s this show is all about getting involved with the characters as they travel (on a show boat) up the Mississippi to Chicago during the 1890s. Racial and social issues are explored along the way. It is renowned for being the first “musical play” produced in America. The songs, choreography, and storyline are unforgettable. A majority of the play takes place on the Cotton Blossom while it makes its way upriver to Chicago. Along the way there are several character interactions involving lust and love, forbidden relationships, and racial prejudice.
