2013 Record (71-91) Missed playoffs
The Seattle Mariners have arguably one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Felix Hernandez, or King Felix, however, was unable to do it on his own. The 2013 Mariners struggled to find their footing and finished well out of the playoff picture in the AL West. Manager Eric Wedge was let go at the end of the year and the Mariners brought in Lloyd McClendon, who most recently managed the 2005 Pirates, to right the ship.
The Mariners struggling offense pushed the front office to break the bank for a slugger in the middle of the lineup. In the most surprising move of the offseason the Mariners signed former Yankee second baseball, Robinson Cano to a 10 year $240 million contract. The Mariners now find themselves within striking distance in the AL West. Cano has lived up to the big contract so far and is off to a hot start in 2014. Ace, King Felix, continues to put up stellar numbers. Can the dynamic duo of Cano and Hernandez lead the Mariners back into the playoffs?
