Head coach Urban Meyer will enter his first season with the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2012 after taking a one-year hiatus from coaching. Coach Meyer is hoping to enter the 2012 NCAA season stronger than when he left in 2010. As for the Buckeyes, they ended their 2011 season 6-7 under interim head coach Luke Fickell. Fickell replaced former head coach Jim Tressel after Tressel resigned in the wake of a string of NCAA violations that were handed down to the Ohio State football program. Because of NCAA sanctions, the Buckeyes will not be eligible for the Big Ten championship game and will be banned from all bowl games in the 2012 season. Still, Coach Meyer is confident that the punishments imposed on his team will not affect their ability to be a top contender in the Big Ten. With multiple highly touted recruits such as defensive ends Noah Spence and Adolphus Washington and linebackers Josh Perry and David Perkin, the Buckeyes defense will be energized with depth and talent. On the offensive end, wide receivers Michael Thomas and Devin Smith should return to have another explosive season.
