North Texas Mean Green

The North Texas Mean Green are excited to kick off the 2012 college football season. Grab the best seats for all your college football needs at Gold Coast Tickets!

The Mean Green will operate under head coach Dan McCamey at Apogee Stadium, which holds just over 30,000 roaring fans. The Mean Green have sent about a dozen players to the NFL, currently including pro bowl offensive guard Brian Waters. Former North Texan “Mean” Joe Greene was the best player ever to wear a green and white jersey. He was drafted fourth by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1969 draft, and probably should have been drafted higher. He is considered to be one of the best defensive linemen to ever play the game, as he was the face of the infamous “Steel Curtain” defense of the Steelers during the 1970’s.

Without “Mean” Joe Greene on the defensive side of the ball for North Texas, they have not done too well. They made a run in the early 2000’s, winning the Sun Belt Conference Championship for four straight years (2001-2004), but that was it. From the 2005 season forward, the Mean Green have recorded an all time low 19 wins in 7 seasons.

This year the Mean Green look to turn things around, but it will not be easy as they have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation. They do not play a non-conference game at home and have to travel to some of the hardest places to play in college football. First, they play the #2 ranked LSU Tigers, who lost the National Championship game last year to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Then, they travel to Kansas State to play a much-improved Big 12 team. Finally, they take on a Houston team that went 12-1 last year under the arm of Case Keenum and look to make it to a BCS Bowl this year. Gold Coast Tickets does not want you to miss out on the ride as North Texas tries to upset these powerhouse schools!
