In his 17 years as Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo has carried on the celebrated winning tradition of Spartans men’s basketball that has allowed it to become one of the NCAA’s elite programs (4th all time in win percentage). Izzo’s Spartans have made 14 straight NCAA “March Madness” Tournament appearances (3rd longest active streak), which includes Championship Runners Up in 2009 and a Final Four appearance in 2010. With a solid squad taking the court yet again this year it doesn’t look as if the streak is going to end anytime soon.
Leading this Spartan’s team are two young athletes from the state of Michigan themselves. Hailing from Saginaw, Michigan is 6’7’’ senior forward Draymond Green who is topping the team in nearly every statistical category so far this season including points, rebounds and steals. Providing another fare share of Spartan’s scoring is Detroit native Keith Appling. The Sophomore guard is putting up double figure points per game and has led the team in assists the majority of the season. Green’s consistent double double abilities paired with the skills of Appling and the rest of the Michigan State team has given ol’ Sparty a lot to cheer for this season.
