Times are a changin’ for Maryland Basketball. The start of the 2014-2015 season will be the schools first season in the Big Ten. The program previously was a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference until 2014. Maryland will bring to the Big Ten a team that is usually a shoe-in to make the NCAA Tournament. Times, however, have been a little rough on Maryland as of late. Mark Turgeon’s 2013-2014 Terps never quite got it together, finishing 17-15 and missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the third season in a row. The move to the Big Ten looks to have come at the right time, though, as Maryland will be returning its top three scorers from last year’s team. Among the names to keep an eye on include Seth Allen, Dez Wells, Nick Faust, and Evan Smotrycz.
The Maryland Terrapins operate under Coach Mark Turgeon at the Comcast Center in College Park, Maryland. They have made 24 NCAA Tournament appearances all-time and last appeared in 2010, losing to Michigan State in the second round. The Terps made 11 straight Tournament appearances between 1994 and 2004 under Coach Gary Williams who turned the program into a national contender for a good while. The 2002 team won the National Championship. While the Turgeon era is still young is hasn’t quite lived up to expectations quite yet. 30 Maryland players have made it to the NBA, including Greivis Vasquez, Chris Wilcox, Steve Blake, Brad Davis, John Lucas, Joe Smith, Walt Williams, and Buck Williams.
