Los Angeles Clippers

2013 Result: 56-26 (4th West seed), lost in Conference Quarterfinals to Memphis

The Clips had the best season in franchise history last season, although that’s not saying much.  But what they’re up to now is really remarkable.  They had never won more than 50 games until this year and fully eclipsed the Lakers for the first time…wait for it…ever, as they entered the playoffs a full four seeds above their Staples Center counterparts and actually outdrew them in regular season attendance.  Because while the Lakers had the big names in Bryant, Nash, Gasol, and Howard, their underachieving became hard to watch over the high-flying Clips attack of Chris Paul (16.9 PPG, 9.7 APG) and Blake Griffin (18.0 PPG, 8.3 RPG).  And who wouldn’t want to see clutch Jamal Crawford off the bench.  The Clippers also acquired Darren Collison and J.J. Redick at guard to provide more depth after losing Chauncey Billups in free agency.  While Vinny Del Negro isn’t known as the greatest defensive guru, his team turned in a very strong defensive performance all year.  Unfortunately for him the first round playoff exit led to his firing, which is ironic because he was being held to expectations that were only that high because of the way his team has played the last two years.  But new head coach Doc Rivers is an elite coach that all players, even Rajon Rondo, respect.  They’re in good hands there.  DeAndre Jordan has yet to fully live up to his potential but has become very consistent for the Clips.  They’re in great position for another successful season and perhaps a deep playoff run.

The Los Angeles Clippers represent the city of Los Angeles in the Pacific Division and Western Conference of the NBA. Founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, the team would relocate to California in 1978, becoming the San Diego Clippers. They relocate again in 1984 to their current location in LA. The Clippers have just nine playoff appearances in 44 seasons and have never even made it to the Conference Finals.  But the Clippers’ future looks brighter than ever and many believe it’ll only be a matter of time now.
