LA Galaxy

The LA Galaxy are the MLS’ marquee franchise, unless you ask DC United fans.  But seriously, the Galaxy is the closest thing the MLS has to a legendary, established franchise you’d find in Europe.  Of course, legendary going back to 1996, when the MLS was created.  Since then they’ve won four MLS Cups (2002, 2005, 2011, and 2012), the MLS Supporters’ Shield (most regular season points earned) four times (1998, 2002, 2010, and 2011), and are usually a contending team.  Due to the league’s parity compared to European leagues, the Galaxy has down years as well and doesn’t automatically get all the star players, but they’re still the top team in the league.

David Beckham’s arrival in 2007 marked a new era for the team and league as it was widely thought his presence could legitimize the MLS worldwide.  It did to some degree, but the attention remained on him and the Galaxy and wasn’t the ice-breaking of stars coming to the US that it was thought to be.  But overall the MLS has gained in popularity by a large proportion since his arrival.  The Galaxy led the league in attendance nine of the first 13 seasons in the league with well over 20,000 fans a game, first in the Rose Bowl and now in the soccer-only Stubhub Center in Carson.  Until the Pacific Northwest got involved, LA was the MLS’ strongest market, and it remains soccer-crazed.  Don’t miss a game of the Yankees of the MLS!  Gold Coast Tickets has the tickets to get you in the game!
