The 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season is the 20th anniversary of semi-professional stock car racing in the United States. Formed in 1982, it is now the number two motorsports series in the United States. The season includes thirty-three races, beginning with the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway and ending with the Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. During the 2010 season, NASCAR announced a few notable calendar changes, including race additions at Iowa Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway, and the removal of Gateway International Raceway from the schedule. Toyota entered 2011 as the reigning Maunfacturer's Champions, while Brad Keselowski is the defending Driver's Champion. Due to new rules, Keselowski was ineligible to defend his title, as he chose to accumulate in the Sprint Cup Series. In 2011, Ricky Steinhouse Jr. took the crown as the Nationwide Series Champion with Ford winning the Manufacturer’s Championship with 212 points. The Nationwide Series has evolved to now racing on the same track as the Sprint series, but they generally race on Saturday instead of Sunday. While the Nationwide series is not as popular as the Sprint Series, a lot of the same drivers from the Sprint Series actually drive on both the Nationwide and Sprint.
