Entering his fourth year at Boston College, head coach Frank Spaziani will try to improve upon a 4-8 record from 2011. Last season was a rough one for the Eagles and left them without a bowl appearance for the first time in 12 years. Despite this, linebacker Luke Kuechly’s dominating presence on the Eagles defense won him the Lombardi Award, the Butkus Award, the Lott Trophy, and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. This season Coach Spaz’s offense will need to improve drastically, as they ranked 100th in passing and 112th overall last season. Despite losing Kuechly, the Eagles’ defense is still among the ACC’s best, so it will likely be up to the offense to see how far the team will fly in 2012. The Boston College Eagles are based in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts at Boston College. The Eagles play football at the NCAA Division I level and are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Boston College is one of only two catholic universities that play football in the FBS, the other being Notre Dame. Since their first season in 1892, the Eagles have won one conference title, two division titles, and have had one Heisman winner, Doug Flutie. The Eagles have played their homes games at Alumni Stadium since 1957. From 1999 to 2010, the Eagles made a bowl appearance every year and won eight of them in a row. The Eagles have had numerous rivalries over the years, including its “The Holy War” with Notre Dame and its Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Syracuse rivalries.
